Halteres from 25 flies (males and females) were dissected from the body using forceps and cut in between the capitellum and the pedicel using a 25-gauge needle. Tissues were immediately frozen in lysis buffer (Qiagen, Rneasy RNA extraction kit) at 20 degrees and processed the same day.
